He worked with a central California homeschool co-op to help the students design and build a gokart 'from scratch', a project which involved the students machining their own parts. He and his wife also take part in an annual homeschool co-op family camp-out in the Kings Canyon National Park, in which he plays a leadership role in helping teach the boys camping and survival skills, as well as serving as one of the children's activity leaders for the camp-out.
